Interview
with the bands getting ready for the 2005 finals
--------------------
It's Only Tech 'n' Roll, But I Like It
OTTAWA, ON, August 26, 2005 – Back by popular demand, the battle for the victorious title of “Rock Gods with Day Jobs” is set to hit Ottawa’s stage this October. The Rolling Stones had to start somewhere after all and this is the event for which our tech sector employees have been ready and waiting - OCRI’s Tech Rocks, an annual battle of the unsigned bands, presented by Gowlings and Northern Micro.
Tech Rocks is the occasion for Ottawa's technology sector employees to group together and strum their stuff onstage, ultimately competing against each other to win a series of prizes, including a professional group recording session and, of course, group bragging rights as Rock Gods.
The first elimination round is set to begin this October, meaning bands have less than ten weeks to register, get their group together, and practice jamming.
The round robin competition will run over a course of six weeks with celebrity music, media and tech-sector industry judges to determine which bands will advance to the finals on the main stage. Through participation, all bands will be helping raise money for the OttawaReads program, which through volunteers aims to strengthen, enrich and improve student learning, specifically in Early Literacy skills. Entry is limited this year to 40 unsigned bands making it a necessity to register online quickly.
Entry forms and band rules can be viewed by visiting www.techrocks.com.
Sponsors of this year's event to date include: Gowlings, Northern Micro, Hewlett Packard, Workshift.com, Bridgewater Systems, Hewson Bridge + Smith, The Ottawa Citizen, Fuel Industries, Steve's Music, Healey Music, Dennis Ruffo Productions and Distortion Studios.
Tech sector wannabes need crawl out of their cubicles in time to register and prove to Ottawa that rock 'n roll and high tech do mix. Actually, they Rock!
